Philips 15 mm Standard Tube for DreamStation and DreamStation 2

The Philips standard tube is the straightforward replacement hose for a DreamStation. Unlike Philips' narrower performance tubing, which needs an adapter before it will even reach the machine, this one pushes straight onto the outlet and takes any standard mask connector.

It is the middle of the three widths Philips builds for this platform, and the one that asks nothing of you at either end. The same part serves the original DreamStation and the DreamStation 2 alike.

Note: Check the symbol molded into your current cuff before ordering. A tube marked 15H or HT15 is a heated tube, and replacing it with this plain one means giving up the heated tube control on your machine.

Why the Tube Type setting matters

A DreamStation adjusts how it delivers pressure based on which hose it thinks is attached, because a narrower tube resists airflow more than a wide one. Get the setting wrong and the machine is correcting for resistance that is not there.

Heated tubes announce themselves electrically and the machine locks the setting on its own. A plain tube has no way to do that, which is why Philips leaves 22, 15 and 12 as a manual choice in the menu.

What the three widths trade against each other

Wider moves more air. Philips measures the 22 mm tube highest at the top of the pressure range, the 15 mm just behind it, and the 12 mm well below both. In the middle of the range the 15 mm actually edges ahead of the 22 mm.

Where the 12 mm genuinely gives something up is pressure accuracy. Philips rates it at a full centimeter of water static against half that for the 15 and 22 mm sizes, and double the dynamic variation.

Cleaning, and how long it lasts

Philips changed its own advice between generations. The original DreamStation manual asks for a hand wash before first use and then daily, while the DreamStation 2 manual asks for weekly. Both mean warm water and a mild liquid dish detergent, rinsed thoroughly and left to air dry.

Work the water through the inside rather than only wiping the outside, since that is the surface your air passes over. Bleach, alcohol and anything containing conditioners or moisturizers are all specifically ruled out.
