Philips DreamWear Full Face Mask

The DreamWear Full Face from Philips is a full face mask that seals under your nose rather than across the bridge of it, while still covering your mouth. Air reaches the cushion through the hollow silicone frame instead of a tube hanging off the front.

The hose connects at the top of your head and swivels there, so it can run up over the headboard rather than across the bed. Frame and cushion are sized separately, which means the fit can be tuned in two directions instead of one.

Why the frame carries the air

A conventional mask is a shell with a hose bolted to the front of it. The weight sits forward of the face, and every movement of the tubing is transmitted straight into the seal, which is why front-connected designs break loose when a sleeper turns.

Philips moved the air path into the structure itself. The two arms running along the cheeks are hollow and meet at the cushion, so the part of the mask touching you carries no hose weight at all.

What happens when you roll over

Lying on one side flattens whichever arm is against the pillow. Because there are two, the other stays open and therapy pressure keeps arriving, which is the specific problem this geometry was built to solve.

The elbow at the crown does the rest. It rotates freely, so tubing follows your head instead of resisting it, and the drag that normally accumulates over a night of turning never builds.

Sizing in two directions

Frame size measures your face from the cushion up to the crown. It has nothing to do with how wide your nose is, so a long face with a narrow nose needs a large frame and a small cushion.

Cushion size is the width across nose and mouth. Because the two axes are independent, a bad fit is usually one of them being wrong rather than both, and the Fit Pack exists so the cushion axis can be settled without guessing.

What wears out, and when

The cushion carries the sealing load every night and is the first part to go. Skin oils are what finish it, softening the silicone until it no longer holds an edge, which shows up as a leak that more strap tension does not fix.

Rinse it daily in warm water with a mild soap, dry it away from direct sunlight, and wash the fabric weekly. Frames and headgear will outlast several cushions, so they sit on a much longer replacement cycle.
