Overview

The Philips Nuance Pro seals with gel nasal pillows rather than plain silicone ones. Gel gives under load and returns, so the ring at your nostrils settles into shape over the first few minutes instead of holding one fixed form. The material does the adapting.

The same gel runs through the headgear, in pads set where the straps cross your cheeks. Nothing sits on your forehead and nothing crosses the bridge of your nose, so the mask leaves your line of sight open from the moment it goes on.

Key Features:

  • Gel where it seals: The pillow ring is gel filled, so it spreads against the nostril instead of pressing on one narrow line.
  • Gel where it holds: Pads on the cheek straps carry the tension that keeps the seal, so the load is spread across a wider area.
  • Nothing above the eyes: There is no forehead support and no frame across the nose, leaving the whole upper face uncovered.
  • Adjusts in two places: A wide back strap takes the weight and a crown strap sets the height, so the fit is tuned rather than yanked.
  • Hose off the face: A short tube and a full swivel let the main hose move overnight without twisting the mask off its seal.
  • Packs into four pieces: The mask separates into four parts and folds into a travel bag without needing a case to protect it.

The Nuance Pro suits patients who find silicone too firm at the nostril, and anyone who reads or watches something before the light goes off and wants the view clear. Sizing follows the width of your nostril openings rather than the length of your nose.

Note: The Pro carries gel pads on silicone cheek straps. The standard Nuance uses a cloth frame instead, and both masks take the same gel pillows.

How It Works

What gel does that silicone cannot

Silicone is elastic. Push it and it pushes back with a force proportional to how far you moved it, which is why a silicone pillow that seals well at one pressure can feel sharp at another and why the contact concentrates on a narrow band.

Gel is viscous as well as elastic. It flows slowly under sustained load and redistributes itself across the whole contact area, so the peak pressure on any one spot drops even though the total force holding the mask on has not changed.

Removing the forehead support

A forehead brace exists to counter leverage. Mask weight and hose drag try to rotate the seal downward, and the brace stops that by bracing against bone above the eyes, which is also why it leaves marks on so many patients.

An open frame has to solve the same problem differently. The Nuance Pro spreads the counterforce between a wide occipital strap and an adjustable crown strap, so the leverage is resisted at two soft points instead of one hard one.

Keeping the tube out of the equation

Most of the force that unseats a nasal pillow does not come from the mask. It comes from six feet of hose hanging off the bed, transmitting every roll and every tug straight to the nostrils.

Two features intercept it. A flexible lead with a full rotating joint absorbs twist before it reaches the frame, and a loop on the headgear lets you route the hose upward, which turns a downward pull into a load the straps already carry.

Three sizes, and no wide option

Gel pillows are offered in Small, Medium and Large, and all three arrive in the box. The right one follows the diameter of the nostril opening, not the length or the profile of the nose, which is why the printable guide asks for a measurement.

There is no wider variant in the Nuance range, so a patient at the top of the Large is at the end of what this mask offers. That is worth knowing before ordering, because the answer in that case is a different mask rather than a different part.

Everything you need to know about the Philips Nuance Pro Gel Nasal Pillow Mask

Gel instead of silicone

The sealing ring on each pillow is filled with gel rather than molded from silicone alone. Gel gives under the weight of the mask and holds its shape at pressure, which is what keeps the seal from pinching.

Tube loop on the headgear

A short tube runs from the mask to your main hose, and the headgear carries a loop you can thread it through. Routing the hose over your shoulder keeps its weight off the front of the mask.

Sized at the nostril base

Gel pillows come in Small, Medium and Large, and the size follows the width of the opening rather than the length of your nose. All three arrive in the box, so the fitting happens at home.

Gel nasal pillows

The pillows are gel rather than plain silicone, so the ring meeting your nostrils softens against skin instead of gripping it.

Gel padded straps

Gel pads sit where the straps cross your cheeks, so the pressure holding the seal is spread rather than concentrated.

No forehead support

Nothing rests above your eyes or across the bridge of your nose, so your view of the room stays unbroken.

Four parts total

The mask comes apart into four pieces and packs flat, so it takes almost no room in a travel bag.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which pillow size should I use?

Start with Medium, which fits most people, and move up or down if the pillow splays the nostril or slips out of it. All three sizes are in the box, so trying them costs nothing.

What is different about the Pro?

The Pro carries gel pads on the silicone cheek straps, where the standard Nuance uses a soft cloth frame. Both masks take the same gel pillows, so the difference is what sits against your cheeks.

Can I reorder the gel pillows?

Yes. Gel pillows are sold on their own in Small, Medium and Large, and they fit both the Nuance and the Nuance Pro frames.

Will it work with my machine?

Yes. The Nuance Pro uses a standard CPAP hose connection and works with any CPAP or BiPAP machine, not only Philips models.

Do I need a prescription?

Yes, CPAP masks are prescription devices. You can still complete checkout without one: we hold the order rather than cancel it, and ship as soon as we can verify your prescription.
