The ResMed AirCurve 11 VAuto is a bilevel machine, which means it gives you a lower pressure when you breathe out and a higher one when you breathe in. You are not working against the machine every time you exhale, the way a single-pressure CPAP can feel.
A heated humidifier is built into the machine rather than clipping on as a separate unit, so there is nothing extra to buy or connect. Built-in cellular connectivity sends your therapy data to the myAir app on its own, with no wifi to set up.

How It Works
How VAuto sets your two pressures
The two pressures have names on your prescription. EPAP is the expiratory positive airway pressure, the floor the device holds while air is leaving your lungs, and it is what stops the airway from collapsing shut. IPAP is the inspiratory figure, the higher number delivered as you draw air in. The gap between the two is called pressure support, and on this device it reaches as wide as 10 cm H2O.
VAuto moves both figures rather than holding them at fixed settings. It lifts EPAP when it senses the airway starting to narrow, and carries IPAP up alongside it so the support stays where your provider wanted it. Trigger and cycle sensitivity govern how quickly the device hands over between inhale and exhale, and both sit in the clinical menu rather than on the patient screen.
Humidification and the heated tube
The HumidAir 11 tub slides into the side of the chassis and holds 380 mL. Air leaving the blower passes over the water surface on its way to the tube, and a heater plate underneath the tub governs how much vapor it carries away. Left on Auto, the device picks a level from the room conditions it reads, and a manual scale is there if you would rather choose one yourself.
Condensation inside the hose, usually called rainout, is the problem the ClimateLineAir 11 tube exists to solve. It holds the air at a temperature you choose along the whole run of the hose, instead of letting it cool between the device and your face. The SlimLine tube carries no heating element, so a cold bedroom is likelier to leave droplets in the line by morning.

Who the AirCurve 11 VAuto is for
Bilevel machines are the step up from CPAP for people who need more pressure than a standard machine can deliver comfortably. If a high setting has been hard to tolerate, or you tried CPAP and could not stay with it, this is usually where a sleep physician goes next. Your prescription decides that, not us.
What actually changes at night
On a CPAP, the pressure that holds your airway open when you breathe in is still pushing when you breathe out. At higher settings that can feel like exhaling against a headwind, and that feeling is a common reason people struggle to stay with therapy. The AirCurve 11 eases the pressure back every time you breathe out, then brings it up again as you breathe in.
Moving over from a CPAP you already own
Your mask, headgear and hose carry straight across, because this uses the same standard connection your old machine did, so there is no refitting and no new mask to break in. The filter and water chamber are the parts that change, and both are the same ones the AirSense 11 takes.

What makes the AirCurve 11 different from the AirSense 11?
The AirSense 11 is a CPAP and this is a bilevel, and that difference is set by your prescription rather than by preference. A physician moves you here when a single pressure is not doing the job. Everything else about living with it, the screen, the setup and the app, works the same way on both.
How does VAuto mode work?
It reads every breath and adjusts both your inhale and exhale pressure in real time, within the range your provider sets. Fixed CPAP and spontaneous (S) modes are also available if your prescription calls for one.
Does it use the same filters and water chamber as the AirSense 11?
Yes to both. It takes Air11 filters and the HumidAir 11 chamber, the same generation the AirSense 11 uses, not the AirSense 10's. The standard and dishwasher-safe chambers both fit, so double check which generation you are ordering.
Can I use supplemental oxygen with it?
Yes, up to 4 LPM in VAuto mode, or up to 15 LPM if your provider sets it to CPAP or S mode. Ask your provider which setup is right for you.
Do I need a different prescription than a standard CPAP?
There is no separate process. It goes through the same Rx upload as any other machine on our site. Your prescription will specify VAuto or another bilevel mode if that is what you have been prescribed.
Can I travel with it?
It runs on standard AC power and compensates for altitude on its own, up to roughly 9,870 ft, so you do not have to change a setting when you land somewhere higher.
How do I clean and take care of it?
Wash the water tub, tubing, and mask cushion in warm, soapy water once a week, then let them air-dry. Skip ozone or UV cleaners, since ResMed does not recommend them and they can void your warranty.
