Overview
This standard filter is the flat polyester pad that sits at the air intake of a ResMed AirSense 10, AirCurve 10, AirStart 10 or S9. It catches household dust out of the room air before the blower sends it down your hose.
NovoSleep sells them three to a pouch under model 86003. Each pad measures 2 1/8 by 1 7/16 inches, the size the filter cover on all four of those machines takes, so there is nothing to trim.
Key Features:
- Polyester filter media: ResMed rates the standard filter for this platform at over 75 percent arrestance for dust around 7 microns.
- Unframed flat pad: No plastic cartridge, just a pad that drops into the filter cover and lifts back out.
- Fits four ResMed lines: The S9, AirSense 10, AirCurve 10 and AirStart 10 all take the same standard filter.
- Three per pack: Model 86003 holds three pads, about eighteen months of changes at the interval ResMed publishes.
- Replaces ResMed 36850: The ResMed original it stands in for is catalog number 36850, listed in ResMed's own accessories guide.
- A compatible part: NovoSleep builds this to drop into ResMed's filter cover, and states on the pack that it is not a ResMed product.
If you are not sure how old the pad in your machine is, take it out and look at it. A new one is white, the one you are holding usually is not, and that comparison settles it faster than memory.
Note: Fits the S9 series, AirSense 10, AirCurve 10 and AirStart 10 only. An AirSense 11 or AirCurve 11 takes a different part, which ResMed lists separately as the Air11 filter.
How It Works
Standard against hypoallergenic
Two filter materials exist for this generation of machine. The standard one is a polyester non-woven pad. The hypoallergenic one uses acrylic and polypropylene fibers instead, and both are cut to the same size and sit in the same cover.
The gap between them is published rather than implied. Against dust at roughly seven microns the standard media is rated above 75 percent, the hypoallergenic above 98. If pet dander or fine household dust is the thing that bothers you, the hypoallergenic pad is the one worth the difference.
What ResMed says about replacing it
Every user guide on this platform, from the S9 through to the AirStart, carries the same instruction word for word: check the air filter and replace it at least every six months, and more often if there are any holes or blockages by dirt or dust.
Those same guides are equally plain that there is no way to stretch the interval, because this pad is not washable or reusable. Once it is due, or once it looks loaded before then, a fresh one goes in. NovoSleep adds one more trigger of its own on the pack: change it if it gets wet or starts to discolor.
Why the AirSense 11 is not on the list
ResMed's eleventh generation machines are not a newer size of the same thing. ResMed names their filter as a separate accessory in its own guide, the Air11 filter, and tests it to a different standard.
So the exclusion is structural rather than a matter of a few millimetres. A pad out of this pouch is not the part for an Air11 machine, and the one you want there is sold under that name instead.

Everything you need to know about the NovoSleep Standard Filters for AirSense 10, S9 & AirCurve, 3-Pack
Dust stopped at the intake
The filter sits at the machine's air intake, so the room air feeding your therapy passes through it before the blower ever sends it down the hose. ResMed rates the standard filter for this platform at over 75 percent arrestance for dust around 7 microns.
When the pad turns gray
Household dust loads the pad slowly and turns it visibly gray as it goes, which is the one sign most people do see. The trigger in ResMed's user guide is plain: replace at least every six months, and sooner if there are holes or blockages from dust.
Three changes in one pouch
NovoSleep packs three filters to a pouch rather than selling them singly. Against ResMed's six month interval that is about eighteen months of changes in one purchase, and the spare is in the drawer on the night you notice the old one has gone gray.

Polyester filter media
ResMed rates the standard filter this replaces at over 75 percent arrestance for dust around 7 microns.
Unframed flat pad
No plastic cartridge or frame, just a pad that drops into the filter cover and lifts back out.
Four ResMed families
One pad size covers the S9, AirSense 10, AirCurve 10 and AirStart 10, which all take the same filter.
Three per pack
NovoSleep packs three filters under model 86003, so the next change is already in the drawer.
Frequently Asked Questions
Will this fit my machine?
It fits the ResMed S9 series, AirSense 10, AirCurve 10 and AirStart 10, which all take the same standard filter. It does not fit an AirSense 11 or an AirCurve 11, which take a part ResMed lists separately under its own name, the Air11 filter.
How is this different from the hypoallergenic filter?
The material. This standard pad is polyester, rated by ResMed at over 75 percent arrestance for dust around 7 microns. The hypoallergenic version uses acrylic and polypropylene fibers and is rated at over 98 percent at the same particle size, which is the one to pick for pet dander and fine dust.
Can I rinse these and put them back in?
No. ResMed states it in one line for this filter: the air filter is not washable or reusable. There is no rinse cycle that restores it, which is why they are sold three to a pack.
How often should I replace one?
ResMed's guide says at least every six months, and sooner if there are any holes or blockages by dirt or dust. NovoSleep adds its own advice on the pack: change it if it gets wet or starts to discolor.
Is this made by ResMed?
No, and NovoSleep says so on the package itself: this is not a ResMed product, and the ResMed model names are printed there solely to show what it fits. It is a compatible pad built to drop into the same filter cover.
