Overview
The ResMed AirTouch F40 pairs a compact full face frame with a ComfiSoft cushion, which bonds soft fabric to flexible silicone. It seals under your nose and around your mouth, so the part against your face is fabric and nothing rests on the bridge of your nose.
The frame sits low on your face, with a short tube that hangs from the front of the mask rather than running over your head. Its flexible shape is designed to give you room to move and change your sleeping position through the night.
Key Features:
- Cool on your skin: ResMed designed the ComfiSoft fabric to wick away moisture and feel cool and gentle where the cushion touches your face.
- Seal that moves with you: AdaptiSeal technology is designed to help the cushion keep a secure seal that shifts with you as you sleep.
- Quiet venting: ResMed rates the mask at 20 dBA sound power, and 13 dBA from one meter away, with its QuietAir vent ring fitted.
- Four-point adjustment: ResMed has you set the upper pair of straps for the seal near your nose and the lower pair for the seal at your mouth.
- Broad fit range: ResMed estimates that between them, its three cushion sizes fit about 96 percent of people.
The AirTouch F40 is ideal for patients who breathe through their mouth, want the softness of a fabric cushion, or prefer a compact mask that keeps their view open. It is especially beneficial for restless sleepers who change position often during the night.
Note: This mask is not compatible with the ResMed AirMini. ResMed machines list it under the Pillows mask setting, not Full Face.
How It Works
Parts and replacement
ResMed sells the cushion, the frame system and the headgear separately, so a worn part can be changed on its own. A frame system comes with the cushion, elbow and short tube already attached, and the headgear is shared with the AirFit F40.
ResMed's US resupply schedule lists a new cushion every month, a frame system every 3 months and headgear every 6 months. Some pilling or fraying of the fabric can appear with use, and ResMed states that it does not affect how the mask performs.
Safety valve and magnets
An anti-asphyxia valve opens to let you breathe room air if your machine stops blowing air. The mask works across therapy pressures of 4 to 30 cmH2O.
Magnets sit in the frame and in the lower headgear clips. ResMed advises against this mask if you, or someone in close contact with you while you wear it, has an implant that magnets can affect, such as a pacemaker, and says to keep the magnets at least 6 inches from any such device.
What ResMed's testing found
The 96 percent fit range is ResMed's projection from an internal analysis of cushion fit, not a measured trial. In a separate study of 36 adults who already wore full face masks, 91 percent rated the AirTouch F40 comfortable at the first fitting and 97 percent found it easy to fit.
Across six crossover studies of ResMed's fabric cushion masks, participants rated the fabric versions above their silicone versions for comfort and seal. The figures come from ResMed's own research, so treat them as a guide rather than a guarantee for your face.

Everything you need to know about the ResMed AirTouch F40 Full Face Mask
Fabric fused silicone cushion
The ComfiSoft cushion fuses breathable fabric to flexible silicone, with no rigid plastic where it rests under your nose. Soft fabric is what meets your skin, and AdaptiSeal technology lets the cushion conform to your face to help it hold a seal.
Clear line of sight
The cushion seals beneath your nose instead of over its bridge, and the compact frame stays below your eyes. ResMed shaped it to avoid pressure marks on the bridge of your nose and keep your view open, which helps if you read before sleep.
Choosing a cushion size
Your cushion size depends on how wide your nose is, measured with ResMed's printable AirTouch F40 sizing guide. Print it at actual size and confirm the scale against the ruler on the page. ResMed notes that sizing is not always the same from one mask model to another.

Interchangeable cushions
AirTouch F40 and AirFit F40 cushions fit the same frame, so moving between fabric and silicone means a new cushion only.
Magnetic lower clips
Twist the lower clips off the frame magnets to take the mask off, and your strap lengths stay set for next time.
QuietAir venting
A ring of small vent holes diffuses each breath at a rated 20 dBA, so less sound reaches the person beside you.
Quick-release elbow
Squeeze the side buttons and the elbow comes away from the mask, so disconnecting from the hose at night is quick.
Frequently Asked Questions
What sizes does the AirTouch F40 come in?
The cushion comes in Small Wide, Medium and Large, and the headgear in Small, Standard and Large. ResMed makes five kits: Standard headgear pairs with all three cushions, while Small and Large headgear come only with the Medium cushion.
How is it different from the AirFit F40?
Only the cushion is different. The AirTouch F40 cushion has a fabric face where it touches your skin, while the AirFit F40 cushion is all silicone, and the two masks share the same frame design, elbow and headgear.
How do I wash the fabric cushion?
By hand, every day, without a brush. ResMed says to let it soak in warm water and a mild liquid detergent, then rinse it, squeeze it and leave it to air-dry out of the sun. The vent ring, elbow and short tube are washed daily too, the frame and headgear weekly.
Will it work with my machine?
Yes. It fits the standard hose on most CPAP and BiPAP machines, though it does not connect to an AirMini. On a ResMed AirSense or AirCurve, set the mask type to Pillows, which is what ResMed specifies for this full face mask.
Do I need a prescription?
Yes, CPAP masks are prescription devices. You can still complete checkout without one: we hold the order rather than cancel it, and ship as soon as we can verify your prescription.
