The AirFit N30 is a three-component nasal cradle mask: a frame, adjustable headgear, and a cushion in one of three colour-coded sizes. Its most significant engineering detail is the dual-wall cushion architecture — specifically the role of the septum bridge membrane — which explains how this mask maintains a seal differently from both nasal pillows masks and traditional full-perimeter nasal masks.

WHAT A NASAL CRADLE SEAL MEANS FOR CONTACT GEOMETRY

The cushion curves under the base of the nose. It does not insert into the nostrils, does not rest on the nasal bridge, and does not contact the cheeks or the sides of the nose. The seal is formed by pressing upward against the soft tissue at the underside of the nasal septum and the base of the nostrils — no part of the mask enters the nasal cavity. Patients who find full nasal masks like the N20 claustrophobic, or who develop pressure sores on the nasal bridge from masks that sit across the nose's bony ridge, are the primary candidates for this contact geometry.

HOW THE SEPTUM BRIDGE MEMBRANE CREATES THE SEAL

The cushion uses a dual-wall structure. The outer curved wall cradles under and around the nose, handling positioning and accommodating movement. The inner membrane, which spans across the septum bridge, is the pressure seal. As therapy pressure builds inside the cushion, it inflates this membrane outward against the face, reinforcing the seal without requiring the headgear to be pulled tighter. The practical result is that patients can often use lighter headgear tension than they would with a compression-style cushion, which reduces the likelihood of overnight strap marks.

QUIET AIR VENTING AND THE FLEX TUBE

The QuietAir venting system diffuses exhaled air at approximately 18 dBA — quieter than most CPAP masks. The short flexible tube is built into the frame rather than being a separate component. It connects the mask to the standard CPAP hose and absorbs a degree of movement without transmitting hose tension directly to the cushion seal.

SIZING, COMPATIBILITY, AND CLEANING

Cushion sizes are colour-coded: Small carries a red ring, Medium carries a blue ring, and Small Wide carries a purple ring. Frame size is not a separate variable on this mask — one frame fits all cushion sizes. ResMed provides a printable sizing guide for cushion selection. The AirFit N30 is compatible with the AirMini travel CPAP. Replacement cushions are recommended every one to three months. Cushions should be cleaned daily; headgear weekly.
