What AutoLock does after you fit it

Fitting and holding are two separate jobs, and most headgear asks one set of straps to do both. Tension tight enough to survive a night of rolling over is usually tighter than the seal itself needs.

Solo splits them. A single touch sets the fit, and AutoLock is what keeps the mask where you put it once you are asleep, so the tension you wear is the tension that seals rather than the tension that holds.

Where nasal pillows actually sit

The name suggests something pushed up inside the nostrils, and on many masks that is close to true. This cushion is shaped to rest in and around the nose instead, which spreads the load onto the rim rather than the inside.

That matters at higher pressures, where a pillow sealing purely from within tends to be felt. It also keeps the whole assembly below eye level, so glasses, a book or a television screen stay usable at bedtime.

Getting the headgear to sit still

Two straps run around the head: a gray one that anchors low at the back, and a gold one that crosses over the top. The wider you set the split between them, the more stable the whole thing becomes.

Slipping is almost always a strap placement problem rather than a tension problem. Anchor the gray strap at the base of the skull first, then move the gold strap up. Long hair is best threaded between the two.

Swapping between pillows and a cushion

One frame carries the whole range. A Solo nasal cushion, which seals under the nose rather than at the nostrils, clips onto this same frame and headgear, so trying the other style means changing one part.
