ResMed HumidX Waterless Humidifier for AirMini

The HumidX is a small cartridge that drops into the AirMini vent module and gives you humidity without a drop of water in the machine. It catches the heat and moisture in the air you breathe out and hands both back on the way in.

This is the blue standard version, the one ResMed treats as the starting point for most bedrooms and most seasons. It fits the AirFit P10 for AirMini, the AirFit N30 for AirMini, and the AirFit N20 on its AirMini connector.

• Replace every 30 days: ResMed counts the thirty days from the moment you open the sealed pack, not from the first night you use it.
• No water anywhere: There is no chamber to fill, nothing to empty in the morning and no distilled water to carry with you.
• Where it sits: It locks inside the vent module between you and the vent, so nothing at all is added to the mask.
• Keep it dry: It should be dry when therapy starts, and a damp cartridge is a common cause of airflow that feels weak.
• Not for full face: The AirMini F20 and F30 connectors take the separate HumidX F20 instead, and the two are not interchangeable.
• Measured output: ResMed benchtests it at 70 to 80 percent humidity in a room between 61 and 72 degrees Fahrenheit.

The HumidX is ideal for anyone who wants their AirMini to stay a travel machine, with nothing to fill and nothing to pour out at security. It is the version ResMed asks you to start with, and the one most people end up staying on.

Note: Check which AirMini mask you have before ordering. The F20 and F30 full face connectors take HumidX F20, a different cartridge, and this one will not fit them.

How a heat and moisture exchanger works

Every breath you let go of carries warmth and water out of your body. A bedside humidifier replaces what you lose by boiling a tank of water and pushing the vapor down the hose. An exchanger does the opposite: it stands in the path and keeps some of what you already exhaled, then returns it a second later when you breathe in.

Hospitals have used the principle for over fifty years, and what ResMed changed is where the part sits. Because the AirMini puts its vent in the tube connector instead of on the mask, the cartridge can sit on the patient side of that vent and hold the warmth back before it escapes. That is why something the size of a coin can keep pace with a tank.

Reading your own results

Give it a few nights before you judge it. If you still wake with a dry or blocked nose and your mask is sealing properly, ResMed's instruction is to move up to the gray HumidX Plus, which returns more moisture per breath.

If you find beads of water collecting anywhere between the connector and your face, the room has more humidity than you need and the guidance runs the other way. On the blue HumidX, ResMed suggests simply taking it out and running a night without it. Ambient conditions change with the season, so the right answer in February is often not the right answer in July.
