Why a cradle is not a pillow

The distinction matters more than the names suggest. A cradle cushion cups the outside of the nostrils and seals on the soft tissue just beneath them, touching nothing inside the nose.

Nasal pillows insert into the nostril opening and seal from within. People who find insertion uncomfortable, or who get raw spots inside the nares, usually do better on a cradle. The AirFit P30i is the pillow equivalent if you want to compare.

What the SpringFit frame does

Hollow arms run down each cheek and carry pressurized air from the crown connection to the cushion, so the frame is part of the air path rather than a bracket holding it.

The arms are sprung, which means they push gently outward against the sides of the head and hold position without being cranked tight. That is what lets one frame size cover a wide range of face shapes.

Reading the three cushion sizes

Small, Small Wide and Medium are not a simple ladder. Small and Medium differ in overall scale, the way you would expect them to.

Small Wide sits outside that sequence: it matches Small for height but spans a broader base, and it exists for noses that are wide and shallow rather than merely large. A Wide cushion is also made, sold on its own, for the same shape at Medium scale.

Getting the most out of each cushion

Wash the cushion in use every day in warm water with a mild soap, and let it dry away from direct sunlight. Silicone lasts well but skin oil degrades it, and a cushion washed daily outlasts one washed weekly by a wide margin.

Leave the spares sealed in their bag. Dust and airborne oil settle on exposed silicone and give you a cushion that will not seal the first night you try it, which is exactly the problem the pack was bought to avoid.
